Sleep disorders can occur because of physical and psychological factors. One cause is respiratory distress due to obesity. Added weight causes fat from the neck keeps growing so that neck circumference greater. Try to observe the people around you with a neck circumference of 16 inches or greater.
Big neck is not only damaging the appearance, but also disrupts the flow of air going into the lungs. Inadequate air supply would interfere with breathing and in turn disrupt sleeping comfort. Do not underestimate the difficulty of breathing-related sleep disorders. The problem of sleep disorders can create mental stress triggers obesity.
The size of your neck might be useful in determining your risk for various sleep disorders, including snoring and sleep apnea. A large neck likely corresponds to increased fat tissue elsewhere in the body. Aside from developing a large stomach, you’ll also have tissue crowding along the airway, specially in the throat. Once the airway becomes narrowed, the chances are greater to partially collapse (causing hypopneas or snoring) or totally close off (causing sleep apnea).
If you are worried you will probably have sleep apnea, talk to your doctor. Healthy eating, weight loss and exercise is imperative to try and correct the underlying cause.
