The periodontitis is actually a very common gum disease and it has been able to affect at least 80% of the population. This is the kind of disease that can either be advanced, mild or moderate which is why the severity of the disease is used to classify it. The presence of the periodontitis can also be because of various causes. Some of the causes are namely the following: systemic disease, bacteria, immune system and genetics. There is a good chance that it will take a few years after before the person will be able to notice the changes caused by the disease. The reason behind this is because the gum diseases advance asymptomatically and slowly. Reducing the support for the teeth and the bone loss is as a matter of fact caused by the periodontal disease. There is a periodontal pocket since there will be space between the gum and tooth.
A measurement of 3 mm or less is what the measurement between the tooth and gum is for a person that has normal health. What you need to know about the periodontal pocket is that the measurement of this can be from 4 mm to 12 mm or even more actually. What you also need to know about the periodontal pocket is that this is the reason as to why it can be virtually impossible to be able to have the bacteria removed. This is the kind of environment that the bacteria can thrive and live in.
